Jeremy Lappitt

Jeremy Lappitt and Christopher Peña are juniors in the jazz studies major in the Arizona State University Herberger Institute School of Music, and Steven Limpert is a senior in the electrical engineering program in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering who participates in jazz studies coursework. Each student was a winner in DownBeat magazine’s 33rd Annual Student Music Awards. DownBeat magazine is one of the most respected jazz publications in the country, and its annual student awards are among the most coveted in jazz education.

Lappitt and Peña won awards for their collaborative arrangement of Bebel Gilberto’s Um Segundo, and Limpert won in the Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist category for his work on recordings he co-produced with guitarist and recent ASU music composition graduate, Kevan Nymeyer.

The student award results were announced in DownBeat’'s June 2010 issue that currently is on newsstands. Entries were judged on musicianship, creativity, improvisation, technique, sound quality and balance, excitement, authority, and other criteria. The panel of judges included the DownBeat editors, professional musicians, and educators.
