String Project
Low-cost, high-quality instruction on orchestral stringed instruments
The mission of the ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre String Project is to offer low-cost, high-quality instruction on orchestral stringed instruments: violin, viola, cello, and double bass. The program supports existing public school string programs and provides string education to those enrolled in schools where no program is available. An additional purpose of all String Projects in the country is to offer supervised teaching experience to music majors, to better prepare them for teaching in K-12 classes or for offering private instruction.
The String Project offers classes on Saturday mornings and private lessons seven days a week. Students will perform in a concert at the end of each semester.
The ASU String Project is a member of the National String Project Consortium and won the Robert Jesselson String Project Consortium Award for the nation’s most outstanding String Project in 2005.
2023-24 instruction
The ASU String Project is pleased to be able to offer in-person and virtual private lessons and in-person Saturday classes. Virtual instruction will be via the Zoom platform, and the teacher will provide a link for students to click.

The String Project's goal is to provide low-cost, high-quality instruction. Our tuition rates are kept as low as possible: $7.50 per class and $14.00 per lesson.
Scholarship applications must be submitted no later than February 5, 2024.
To apply for a scholarship:
- Do not register online for a class or lessons until your scholarship form has been approved and you have received a discount code.
- Complete a Scholarship Application (English and Spanish).
- Ask your school orchestra teacher or another music teacher to sign the form.
- Attach proof of need (for example, eligibility for free/reduced lunch, application for unemployment, furlough letter, statement about your situation).
- If you are requesting a scholarship for private lessons, please download and complete the Lesson Schedule Form (English and Spanish).
- Fax, email, or mail all of the forms to the String Project no later than Monday, February 5. You can contact the String Project in one of three ways:

Scholarship applications and lesson schedules must submitted by February 5. If you submit your application and lesson schedule after February 5, we cannot guarantee that you will be accepted for private lessons.
