School of Music, Dance and Theatre
The School of Music, Dance and Theatre on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for session instructors to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in: dance, theatre, music theory, music performance, and in popular music, which might include applied instruction, ensemble direction, music product development, songwriting, music production and engineering, and/or music industry.
These positions are one-semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical session instructor course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).
The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as session instructor may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.
Anticipated start date is: Summer 2025, session A, B and/or C

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of industry experience; a Master’s degree in relevant field, by time of appointment and 2 years of industry experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- MM/MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
- Professional experience and/or teaching in one or more of the identified disciplines
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
- Knowledge of local and regional disciplinary ecosystem
- Demonstrated experience developing curricula
- Creative Activity/Scholarly research interests and achievement as demonstrated through performances, presentations and/or publications
