Evelyn Smith Music Theatre
The Evelyn Smith Music Theatre, modeled after the Wagnerian Theatre in Bayreuth Germany, rises five stories and seats 500 people. This theatre is the home of the many opera and musical productions presented by ASU Music Theatre and Opera in the Herberger Institute's School of Music, Dance and Theatre. The theatre is also used as a classroom for the larger music appreciation courses. The theatre is named in recognition of the late Evelyn Smith, a lifetime lover of the arts and longtime valley philanthropist. A gift to the college from Smith and her family funds an expansive number of programs in the college, including those in Music Theatre and Opera, an endowed professorship in music, an endowed visiting professorship in music and endowed fellowships for graduate students in music.
