Take advantage of the many opportunities available to you including expert faculty, partnerships with ASU Gammage and other Phoenix venues, networking with guest professionals, and collaboration with a range of creative artists.
Work with expert faculty
Our expert faculty will help you embody fluency in diverse dance forms: hip-hop, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latin, somatic practices, contemporary modern, contemporary ballet and authentic jazz. Through a variety of coursework, you will gain a better understanding of a range of styles. With the mentorship of faculty, you will develop a portfolio of creative work that represents your perspective.
Broaden your experience
Gain the experience on and off the stage to create the career you want. Our dance degrees focus on contemporary dance forms, including hip-hop, Afro-Latin movement practices, contemporary ballet and contemporary modern as well as theoretical studies that encourage individual artistic growth and prepare students to become artists and educators of dance. Each student also gains hands-on production experience in costuming, lighting, sound and stage management.
Build the career of your future
Whether you want to refine your technique, delve deeper into choreography and production, share your passion for movement as an educator, or add breadth to your dance career, you can design a dance degree that speaks to your personal goals through the Herberger Institute School of Music, Dance and Theatre.
The dance BFA prepares you for a professional path in choreography, performance or dance education. The dance BA is a flexible, interdisciplinary degree focused on social partnership dance, hip-hop or a combination of dance and theatre.
As an MFA student, you will learn how to apply for grants, present research, conduct conferences and host community events. You will also have the opportunity to teach your own classes and assist faculty. Pursue a praxis certificate along with your degree to receive credentialing for teaching in K-12 schools.
