The School of Music, Dance and Theatre is offering summer music courses and workshops for high school students of all levels. From songwriting to powerful practice techniques and everything in between, there is something for everyone!

ASU Performing Arts Camp

Join us for the First Annual ASU Performing Arts Camp held on the Tempe campus. This week-long camp for high school students (grades 9-12) and college transfers will give attendees a peek into life as a major in the performing arts.

Popular Music

Songwriting, Production and Performance Intensive

Join the ASU Popular Music Program for a 3 day songwriting, production and performance intensive open to all levels of experience, instrumentation. Connect and collaborate with other young musicians for an experience that will transform your musicianship and take your skills to the next level. There will be opportunities to work in our state of the art facilities and studios, have your work heard and workshopped, perform each night, and sit in on Masterclasses from visiting industry professionals.

This program is for rising high school freshmen, current high school students, recent high school graduates.

May 31 – June 2: arrival as early as 8 a.m., performances from 5-7 p.m.
Location: Fusion on First, 380 N 1st Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85003
Limited to 75 participants. Followed by an opportunity to audition for acceptance into the program at no cost.

Erin Barra: writer, producer and performer, Director of the Popular Music Program and former Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music, Executive Director of Beats By Girlz, music technology consultant and Recording Academy member.
Jorge Costa: mix and recording engineer, Assistant Professor, Korn, Melissa Ethridge, Wiz Khalifa, Dr. Dre, Recording Academy member.
Raul Yanez: pianist and producer, DMX, George Benson, Bernard Purdie, Sister Sledge, El Chicano.

The Music of Batman

Study the many different approaches to scoring Batman on screen in this fun and informative course. From Neal Hefty and Nelson Riddle's big band style in the 60's, through Danny Elfman's grand symphonic approach up to Hans Zimmer's electronic and orchestral hybrid scores, the iconic soundtracks for Batman have been exciting, influential and varied.

Change Your Mind, Change Your Playing

May 17 - June 25 and June 30 - August 10 | M-F | 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Workshop: $

Trumpeter Joe Burgstaller (Associate Professor, Arizona State University; formerly Canadian Brass) draws on his career, and on behavioral science, neuroscience, and sports psychology, to offer tools for reframing reality, performance anxiety management and powerful practice techniques. High school students who are interested in auditioning for the workshop should contact joeburgstaller@asu.edu prior to registering.
