Engaging with Music credential

Mission and rationale

How do we build mutually beneficial relationships through music?

The Community Engagement Initiative includes mandatory exposure to community engagement through the 101 course and an optional credential Engaging with Music for students who are interested:

  • in further developing community engagement skills, and
  • creating and implementing engagement projects that build mutually beneficial relationships through music.

Both the mandatory exposure to community engagement and the optional credential are in alignment with the Herberger Institute's Design and the Arts Corps initiative. This initiative allows the School of Music, Dance and Theatre to be a supportive unit in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, as we will be the first school to create a discipline-specific community engagement proposal that works with Design and the Arts Corps.

Level 1 (mandatory)

  • Built into the MUE/MUP 101 Curriculum.
  • Completed by all incoming first-year students.
