Our theatre program includes the option to choose a concentration area in either acting or design and production. Please indicate your concentration on your ASU application. There is no separate application for the concentration areas, but you will need to complete a degree progress review at the end of your freshman year.

We welcome all students to the acting program. The concentration does not exclude students based on lack of experience. We seek to mirror the ideals of ASU’s charter by including all students who wish to pursue acting.
How to become a Theatre major:

When you apply to Arizona State University, select Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (Acting) as your intended major.
What do you get by being in the concentration?
- Guest artist workshops, lectures and master classes
- One-on-one mentoring with faculty
- Preparation for working in the profession
Scholarships
Applicants are automatically considered for scholarships. In addition to university scholarships, applicants are also considered for department scholarships. There is no separate application.
First Year Acting Review
At the end of their first year, all acting students will submit a portfolio and meet with the faculty to discuss their progress in the acting concentration. The review is meant to establish an understanding of each student's abilities and aspirations for the future.
Steps to Complete:
- Submit the Undergraduate Theatre Acting Application by March 1 of your freshman year. Your portfolio will include:
- A letter of intent, expressing why you are interested in the concentration
- A theatre resume, outlining your previous experience
- Unofficial transcript or DARS
- Audition with theatre faculty at the end of second semester.
- Auditions are on March 21, 2025.
Transfer students should apply for the milestone review during their first semester at ASU.

Students who wish to study either the concentrations of acting or design and production will need to review the admission requirements for those concentrations.
