Apply to a dance major

We invite you to apply to one of our undergraduate dance programs.

1. Apply to ASU

When you apply to Arizona State University, you will be asked to indicate your intended major. Please select dance, dance education, or performance and movement. Our dance program is direct admission; there is no separate application or audition as a dance major.

Apply to ASU

Current ASU Students: A current ASU student has no additional requirements for changing to a dance major. Students should visit the Change of Major form for information about how to change a major to this program.

2. Be a Dance Major Day

Have you applied to ASU and are interested in being a dance major? Join us for Be a Dance Major Day! Take free classes from expert faculty, meet current students and ask all the questions you have about being a dance major at ASU. This event is designed for seniors in high school who have applied to ASU or for transfer students to ASU.

The ASU dance program has a direct admission process, which means there is no separate audition or application for the dance program. Take advantage of this opportunity to visit campus and learn more about what it's like to be a dance student in the ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre.

Event Date: Friday, February 27, 2026

You can read more about this event and register for Be a Dance Major Day here.

Help with ASU Login Information

Follow the instructions on the ASURITE Activation Page to activate your ASU login and set your password. Then, log in to My.asu.edu. Once you've successfully logged in to your ASU account, you will be able to use the same login information to log in to the MDT application portal. Email [email protected] for assistance.

If you encounter an error while trying to log in to the MDT application portal despite successfully logging in to My ASU, please wait 48-72 hours for your information to be updated across all ASU platforms and try again.

3. Submit transcripts and review information

Dance Scholarships

All dance majors at ASU are automatically considered for dance scholarships. There is no separate scholarship application for dance scholarships. Every year in February, all current and incoming dance majors will be considered for scholarship awards. Award notifications will be sent in late March. We recommend applying to ASU before January.

Transfer Student Coursework

The ASU dance program is a fall-starting program and offers courses that we encourage to be taken in sequence. If you transfer to ASU starting in the spring semester, it will take you five semesters to complete the program.

In order for your coursework to transfer to ASU from your previous institution, you must request that all of your previous institutions send an official copy of your transcripts to ASU. Click here for information on requesting official transcripts. Direct transfer of courses from other accredited institutions are subject to the existence of parallel courses in ASU's curriculum and to departmental evaluation.
