String Project classes are for students in the 4th through 9th grade.

Class Information

Allegro intermediate strings

For students in their second or third year who know A and D string notes.

Presto advanced strings

For students in their second, third or fourth year who know F-natural and slurs.

Popular Music 

For students who are at least in their second year of playing, know F-natural, and want to explore playing popular songs by ear.

Private lessons

Private lessons are scheduled at a time convenient for you and one of the teachers. Students of all ages, grade four through adults, may register for private lessons.

Program dates:February 21 May 2, 2026
Price: $150.00* (includes one 30-minute lesson per week for 10 weeks)

Lesson Information

Follow these steps to enroll:

  2. Download the Lesson Schedule Form (English + Spanish) and return it to:

  3.  Please submit your lesson schedule form as soon as you register. If you plan to carpool with another student, please indicate that on the form. If you register online or submit your schedule after September 8, we cannot guarantee that you will be accepted for private lessons.

Lessons begin no later than the week of February 23. A teacher will call you to arrange a time after you return the schedule form. Instructors assigned by String Project Director Margaret Schmidt, Professor Emerita of Music Education.

Location: Music Building, First Floor, or via Zoom.

Online lessons: Your teacher will email you a link for meeting online using Zoom.

In-person lessons: Please meet your teacher by the fountain in front of the Music Building. Please be sure to bring your teacher's name and phone number with you.
